Young Savers is an exciting new financial awareness project that is currently being piloted within St. Pauls Academy. Our aim is to deliver age appropriate financial education throughout the pupils’ secondary education.
With the help of Community Learning and Development workers, we are currently working very closely with groups of young people from 3 different secondary schools to develop a programme that can provide the tools required to build lasting financial awareness. The ideas and approaches to money, saving, spending and borrowing these young people feel are important will then be incorporated into financial education sessions. A savings collection point will be available within the secondary school. We want to be able to give the young people the confidence and tools they will need to deal with everyday money matters when they leave secondary school and enter into the workplace, or further education.
Young Savers will begin to be introduced into other secondary schools from January 2018.
All young people will be given the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of the project, from saving to becoming involved in advertising and marketing to cash handling and mentoring, giving them valuable volunteering opportunities and transferable skills.
